Balancing Center Aikido
The answer is in the now!
Welcome to Balancing Center Aikido!
Aikido was developed by Morihei Ueshiba (a.k.a. O’sensei) through his religious philosophy and martial arts experience. With a strong commitment to peace, he founded the Art of Aikido which is translated as “the Way of harmony with the Universe” and known as the Art of Peace.
Since 2001, we have been teaching Aikido as a language for understanding ourselves. Terry Dobson, who spent 10 years with the Founder, wrote, “Aikido makes you look at your impatience, your arrogance, your meanness, cruelty, clumsiness, cowardice - all those qualities in yourself that you may need to look at.” Through the dynamics of movement, Aikido brings awareness to the emotional patterns we often repeat unconsciously. Our practice is focused on altering these patterns in order to create intentional balanced movement. This movement is what enhances our ability to make appropriate decisions in the moment.
Aikido is practiced in many different ways. The training at Balancing Center Aikido is based on the teachings of Henry Kono, who spent four years training with O’sensei. With the help of a partner, practice starts with slow movements to introduce the concept of moving in harmony. Many students are surprised at how easily their body overrides their intention and resorts to patterns. Breaking these patterns is key to freeing the mind and moving together with your partner.
The steps involved in achieving this level of movement are focused on relearning proper ways to breathe, stand, and move forward. Along with a partner, students are able to practice at their own pace and discover the means from which efficient and balanced movements arise.
